OUR HISTORY
A History of Growth and Caring
CG Schmidt has been a family-owned company since 1920. Our long history of leadership and innovation began in 1907 when 19-year-old Charles Schmidt left his home in Rosendaal, Holland to come to the United States.
Charles began his career in Milwaukee as a maintenance worker for a local brewery.
In 1920, he set out on his own and launched Charles Schmidt & Sons Construction. In 1929, Charles' son, Charles G. Schmidt, inherited the company and expanded the business through diversification. CG Schmidt was then incorporated in 1946.
Now a fourth-generation firm, CG Schmidt is led by President and Chief Executive Officer, Richard L. (Rick) Schmidt, Jr. CG Schmidt has shown dramatic growth and consistently ranks in the Top 100 Construction Managers in the country by Engineering News Record magazine. By revenue, CG Schmidt is currently ranked as the largest Milwaukee-area contractor by The Business Journal of Milwaukee.
The public accounting firm of Deloitte & Touche LLP has consistently issued an 'unqualified' or 'highly favorable' opinion within its independent auditor’s report of the company. In addition, CG Schmidt consistently receives a "Best-In-Class" rating from the Construction Financial Management Association (CMFA). Their yearly data survey results are regarded as the construction industry's standard for financial benchmarking.
A great many things have changed since 1920, yet some things have not changed at all...
We care about our Clients, we care about our Employees and we care about the Communities we serve.
